Spinners Season 2 Wraps Filming: Cantona James Returns in High-Stakes Showmax Thriller — image 1

Few South African series have managed to blend raw township energy, adrenaline-fueled car culture, and layered emotional storytelling quite like Spinners. It’s one of those rare local shows that didn’t just entertain — it moved the needle for how South African stories can be told on an international scale.

So, yes — I’m thrilled to hear that filming on Spinners Season 2 has officially wrapped. Cantona James returns as Ethan, and from what’s been teased, the stakes are higher, the world bigger, and the consequences far more dangerous. Two years after leaving gang life behind, Ethan’s fame and freedom come under threat again — and this time, the cost of survival might be everything he’s built.

The new cast lineup is equally exciting: Clementine Mosimane joins as the formidable matriarch of the Maseko crime family, with Mondli Makhoba by her side — that’s already cinematic gold. Add rising stars like Luyanda Zwane and Aphiwe Mkefe, and you can feel the generational energy this season is chasing.

What’s remarkable about Spinners is that it never felt like a derivative of any Western genre. It’s unapologetically South African — rooted in language, rhythm, and lived experience — yet executed with the polish of a global action-drama. Season 1 made history by beating Succession at the Shanghai TV Festival, and from the looks of this lineup, Season 2 might just drift further into the international spotlight.

Canal+ and Showmax are clearly building something with longevity — African originals that travel. And Spinners is the perfect vehicle (pun intended).
