Beyond Just Entertainment

It’s always bittersweet when a story you’ve grown to love comes to an end, this Friday Showmax premieres what could be the end of our beloved youth series, Youngins.

As a critic, I’ve always known that films and series are beyond just entertainment; they tell stories, and the best story told is a story that packs emotional relevance and Youngins packed more than that, it packed drama that kept calling you back for more.

The Journey of the Olifants Five and the premier of Season 3

PR has it that Youngins season 3 premieres this Friday, 19 September 2025, and it could be the end of our favourite youth series. The series is by far the best youth-led series of all time in South Africa, tackling challenges we face as young people and having to navigate through teenage turbulence.

Life for the five Olifants has always been filled with drama; from abuse, drugs, love and finding themselves sexually, it’s been a nerve-wracking journey filled with drama, joy and occasional tear drops.

What to Expect

With the trailer revealing quite little of what to expect, all we know is that our five heroes have once again found themselves with a pyrrhic victory yet again. The question that remains is how will they get out of the mess they now find themselves in?

Lebohang Lephatsoana on Embodying Tumelo

In his chat with PR, Lebohang Lephatsoana, who embodies the character of Tumelo, said that it’s not every battle that can be fought, despite how admirable it may be, but it’s not everyone who can be saved – this is rather a message to all youngsters.

Lebohang goes on to say that embodying Tumelo got him to push beyond his limits, especially during the drug spiral – he describes it as challenging but worth it.

Cast and Crew’s Impact

It’s a no-brainer that the cast and crew did an incredible job in bringing to life the characters and the story itself, probably one of the reasons we fell in love with the characters. Or could it be the warm and welcoming nature that was on set? Lebohang revealed that despite Youngins being his first acting gig, the cast and crew were so welcoming that he automatically felt at home.

Final Thoughts

I know I can’t wait to see our Olifants five for the last time on our screens; I sure hope you are as eager as I am to see how they tackle this season.

Whether this is truly the last time we see the Olifants Five or just the beginning of something greater, one thing is certain: Youngins has already cemented itself as a cultural milestone in South African youth storytelling. Don’t miss the premiere this Friday, 19 September on Showmax.
